Hero’s

When I was a young man...
I had the body of a very fit and athletic sixteen year old - yet - with my “Lion-niz-um” I had the emotional capacity of that of a eight year old.
Growing up for me... ...was not an easy task.
I grew up far from society - there where no neighborhood chums - there was the family and a huge repository of books. I took to reading at a very early age. I was reading books, novels, and ecycolopedias long before I was ever permitted to kindergarten. Life was hard in those days, never knowing how I fit in, thus, I lived within the countless volumes my father brought to me. Sometimes, my father would bring a special book and tell me “says... ...fiction - but is truth.... ...understand?” Of course I understood - what my father said was LAW...
There was a special book in our house and I was never permitted to touch it. Its title - “The Old Testament & New Testament of our Lord, Jesus Christ, King James Version”... ...it was a very old book and hidden away in a cu-bord underneath the radio/record player that I was also not allowed to touch. This book my father said had been in the family for a very very long time. It was an heir-loom - whatever that meant... My father called it “the book of life” - and for now - I was forbidden to know its secret...
Father was regulated to reading me books. I did not protest. Every Friday I was permitted to choose another book from the library if we had finished the previous book, or if I was growing bored of text books, magazine, history, Beverly Clearly, even the FM 7-8 (Standard Infantrymen Field Manual)... ...One day - I grew bold - I learned to be brave. Instead of picking a book from the library, I chanced to take the incurably large and very old book to my father as say:
“I am ready for hear this story father - I have been as tall as you for long time now... ...can I hear the story of the life?”
My father deliberated for sometime outside my room - but eventually - returned with this book - “The book of life”... ...I was so happy - I felt like I was growing up. I was becoming a man. Slowly. Assuredly.

Thus began my studies as a man of god.
I was probably eighteen - in the first grade of an elementary school of the Four Peaks...
I quickly learned - god is more than a book - he is many books - and just when you think you have the answers - the test changes - and thus - as the book - is life...

...I always questioned the stories - always questioning that of what was put forth - my father nearly always had the answers - but when he didn’t - he would say - “You will have to go to a special school to know that...” ... ... oh how I dreamed that day would come for it seemed to me - as tall as I was - that I should be able to do these things with ease.

I was emotionally twelve (or so) and just about to enter the Junior High when summer came - and I was sent away to Boston, to a military institute. I was overjoyed!

This lasted a short time when I realized that I would have many new teachers, I would have to wear a uniform, and if I misbehaved I would be doing pushups all day...

...I was distressed - and for a short time - sad.
Soon I realized - that many of my schoolmates where just like me. They, where LIONS - just like me. Not all of the forty or so students where lions - but a vast majority was. Soon, friendships where made - and I excelled. I felt accepted, loved, and respected - for a change. I felt aloof... I felt... empowered...
I felt that if I was ever made to go to public school again - surely I would die!

So, as the story goes, the young Chaplin became disillusioned by real war, and changed his mind - to get on the offensive side of the team instead of the defensive side.

...Johnny Cash - Man in Black...

It's 3:49 Am and I just finished reading your new blog...cheers and applause sent your way.

I made a special folder for saving the pages in full that you link to, haven't had time to red all the links and follow their own little web-chain-tree-IKs but at least I have the open page.

For that...THAN YOU.

Some interesting and needed links like 50 things you should now how to do and the bad-ass Presidents. I did not get far enough to see if Bushhie jr was one of them.

The soldiers should already by on the Moon and Mars if those packs of money sent to Iraq where put toward those goals...watching what I wish for...I wish for just one pack of bills they handed out to an Iraqi family...would help things locally immensely.

Elite Soldiers around the world should mount expitions to the Moon and Mars if you haven't already done so...and is so...it's beyond time you invited civilian quests. Including the mainstream media press first of all.

Good blog.

Like you last response in last bog entry.

Time for some sleep here.

Good job.

Thats the secret - and reason - of any Iraq / Iran conflict...

Are they looking for the "garden of Eden?" ... The tree of the knowledge of good and evil...and the tree of life.?
Maybe the burial spot of Adam and Eve and their pet dinosaur?

Noah's Ark?

Crystal Skulls?

Seriously, some kind of ancient "library" or storehouse of records?

When you say "to late", did you mean "too late"? And if so, does that mean that the search is/will be in vain because someone :-x
has gotten there first, and has already gotten "the goods."

BTW, it was originally called Boulder Dam (after the nearest town, Boulder City, NV., now practically a suburb of Las Vegas--which didn't really exist until the 1950s) Later they changed the name to reflect that "dam Hoover."
They also named a vacuum cleaner after him...becuase he sucked!!!

For some strange reason I was looking at the disposition of U.S Navy aircraft carriers up to and including 1958.

http://www.navy.mil/navydata/ships/carriers/cv-list.asp

Interesting that the USS Enterprise (CV 6), "the Big E," was "sold 1 July 1958"
Most of the time the list says to whom a ship was sold, or the future function, such as a floating museum, etc. or sold for scrap. Sometimes they are sold to another country. This one was just plain "sold" to apparently an anomomous bidder, like a painting at Christie's or Sotheby's.

Hmmmm?

Gort,
Maybe the "Enterprise was sold and lifted to ORBIT and re-built there and Sword here is Mr. Spock or Mr. Sulu? We KNOW he's not Cpt Kirk who would be "TOP"...

And yeah Sword I KNOW that the Museum was the FIRST thing looted in Iraq when Baghdad fell. Also I KNOW there are ancient sites in Iran folks would like to go poking under. I and others have used some of those images of Iran to PROVE that those same features on Mars "could" be ancient artificial archeological sites on Mars.

Please don't tell me you're Harry Mudd and handing out "tribbles"...LOL

Bob,

Speaking of Capt. Kirk, William Shatner will be on C2C next thursday night.

Aside 1: Back in the seventies I was a student at the University of Missouri - St. Louis (UMSL). At that time it was a commuter only campus. In the school cafeteria there were some framed eastern european circus posters that said "Cyrk" and a large poster of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid from the movie.
Anyway, I have a memory of a fellow who used to hang out there, though I don't think he was a student, and I think he had a bit of a mental challenge.
He used to stand in front of the Butch cassidy poster and pretend to "draw" and shoot at it with finger pistols.
And he introduced himself as "Captain Cyrk". (And point to the Cyrk posters and say "That's my name."

Aside 2: There was a street person here in Columbia who called himself Captain Kirk. He's no longer with us, but he was a nice guy. One day I was walking by him and he asked me if I had a dollar.
I said no. So he gave me a dollar!
Cool!

I'll tell you this much, I'm not the gay Asian...
I seriously doubt that it was cut into peaces and reassembled for duty IN SPACE...
...PERHAPS... ...it was rebuilt for tests to be the precursor to the USN Manta-Ray... ...OOOPPSS!
I didn't say that...

Gort threw out:
...Based upon my novel-in-progress, A Sword Into Darkness...

Sword:
Gee - now that doesn't look like anything out there in space now does it? I'm going to have to look into this guy personally...

On another note...
I have mentioned that the US Navy has Carriers that are also submarines...
...That was the easy part.

The USSS SWORN - was a huge blunder as far as recreating the whole carrier, sub-carrier, space carrier through-put was concerned. When they went into space they changed the design... ...drastically...
Why?
Because at the time - all the Air force could do was 60X15 Ft panels at the maximum at a huge cost in fuel...
...then of course, over budget, and out of options - DOD joint project ### was formed and the largest spud gun ever conceived was built.
I find it amusing that they spent trillions of dollars of magic money trying to build something - only to spend a few billion latter to avoid paying a few trillion more...

Aside no. 1 correction: After further reflection, the guy in the school cafeteria said his name was Cyrk Douglas (pronounced: Kirk)

not too far off topic -- we were talking about the USS Enterprise (CV6)

The only other US aircraft carriers that went out of service before 1959, that weren't sunk during battles in WW2, were USS Ranger (CV4) sold for scrap 31 Jan 1947 Sun Shipbuilding & Drydock Co.

USS Saratoga (CV3) used as a test target and sunk at Bikini Atoll. According to the story, Saratoga survived one atomic air blast, but went under in the Bikini Lagoon on 26 Jul 1946, when an atomic bomb was detonated under a barge 500 feet from the carrier.

Saratoga was never salvaged because of high levels of radioactivity. Struck from the list 15 Aug 1946.

USS Independence (CVL 22)was also involved in the tests at Bikini, was damaged in the July 1946 test, taken back to Hawaii and San Francisco, and the damaged radioactive hull was sunk off the coast of California in weapons testing 29 Jun 1951

After 1958
USS Cowpens (CVL 25) sold for scrapping Nov 1959 (buyer not mentioned)

USS Belleau Wood (CVL 24)sold for scrapping Oct 1960 (buyer not mentioned)

USS Bataan (CVL 29) Sold for scrapping May 1961 (buyer not mentioned)

USS Langley (CVL 27) sold 1964 (to the Boston Metals Co., Baltimore, MD. for scrapping.)

USS Boxer (CV 21) sold for scrapping on 13 Mar 1971 (buyer not mentioned)

USS Wasp (CV 18) sold 21 May 1973 to the Union Minerals and Alloys Corp. of New York City and subsequently scrapped.

That takes us through 1973 with US Aircraft carriers disposed of.

SSGN is a transformational submarine, both physically and conceptually. It is a proposal to convert up to four ballistic missile submarines. These four OHIO Class submarines, also referred to as Trident submarines, will be decommissioned and inactivated due to the Nuclear Posture Review. By capitalizing on the investment already made in these advanced submarines, new strike and special operations capabilities are possible.

Reading the wikipedia article and looking at the plans, I would think
the sealed-off former water diversion tunnels (50 ft. diameter and several thousand feet long) on both the Nevada and Arizona sides might make a perfect place to stash or cache a bunch of ancient artifacts, records, etc.

What other projects did your grandfather work on?

My "Folks-Vader" - had a "nearly" solid gold core from his research of the hover dam area.
Fourntenetly - or not - the highest gold deposit in America happens to be the Hoover dam - makes fort Knox look like a sneeze...

He had a one foot long "core" sitting on top of his Zenith television for decades until he cashed it in and but his FINAL home CASH... ... no he didn't write a check - he counted out two hundred and fifty dollars - in one hundred dollars bills before my - and his "security detail" very eyes - before the ever widening eyes of the realistate sales lady...
